The History of the Holzinger
It seems that the Holzinger, as a small tavern, already existed forever. In the beginning the guests were not the local neighbours but workers of the Viennese Brick Factory. The small brick pond, in the centre of the settlement was used buy the workers to cool of on hot days. Only in the 1950s the first houses were built.
In 1958 Eduard and Magdalena Holzinger rented the small tavern from the local government in Traiskirchen. And in 1959 they were allowed to buy it. Our blue salon used to be a goat shed up until 1963. So do not be surprised, if you can still hear a bit of nagging from time to time.
Friedrich Taschler, the hard-working nephew of Magdalena Holzinger finished his economics training with the Julius Meinl Company in 1974 and was ready to take over the business. He created the Hotel and Restaurant Holzinger as we know it today. The name “Holzinger” was kept to honour his beloved Aunt Leni or “Memi” as she was called by the children.
Of course he couldn’t do everything alone. And thankfully he met a nice girl from Mariazell who would become his wife, hardest worker and biggest supporter. In 1978 they expanded the tavern, bought the neighbouring house, made it into a successful hotel and combined everything to the Hotel and Restaurant Holzinger as we know it today.
In between all the work they raised three children together. Dagmar, Barbara and Franz-Josef. All of them went to tourism school. In 2002 a big part of the hotel rooms and the lovely backyard were completely renovated.
The renovation of the rest of the house started in January 2006. The remaining hotel rooms were modernized, five spacious suites were built and a beautiful winter garden was built next to the front desk. The outside of the house was newly painted and the restaurant “Kaiserstube” got new chairs.
After the renovation was completed in March 2006, the third generation Taschler-Holzinger got their turn. The oldest daughter, Dagmar Schotte, returned home after almost seven years abroad. She brought with her, her husband, a great Chef, Martin Schotte. And her brother, Franz-Josef Taschler finished his education as Sommelier. The three of them will lead the Hotel and Restaurant Holzinger into the 21st century.
On July 3rd 2007, we got a very special addition. Felix Schotte our sunshine and future boss was born. And the family keeps growing… On July 30th 2009, Tobias Andreas, son of Franz-Josef Taschler was born. We are looking forward to working with our future Sommelier. Another new family member was born on October 17, 2011. Moritz Schotte is our youngest addition.
